Islamabad: Responding to allegations of election manipulation, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formed a high-powered committee to investigate the claims raised by former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta.
Officials on the Case: The committee, comprising senior members like the secretary, special secretary, and additional director general of law, will delve deep into the accusations.
Gathering Evidence: Their mission is to gather statements from returning officers and district returning officers, presenting their findings within three days.
Legal Action on Hold: Any potential legal action against the former commissioner for “contempt of the ECP” hinges on the committee’s findings after careful evaluation.
Remote Participation: Notably, the meeting involving ECP officials saw physical attendance, while the Chief Election Commissioner and Punjab member participated remotely.
This development signifies the ECP’s seriousness in addressing the rigging allegations and taking appropriate action based on the investigation’s outcome.
